After months of silence, the first previews of Silent Hill f give us new signs of life. The next big title in the franchise has revealed a wide range of playable details, and everything points to this installment seeking to reinvent psychological horror with a different approach, but very connected to the origins of the saga.
Directly inspired by the first Silent Hill games, especially the first and second installments, the new game will maintain the atmospheric and oppressive focus, but will opt for a more direct and demanding combat system. In fact, its hand-to-hand combat is reminiscent of Silent Hill 4 or the recent Silent Hill 2 Remake, although with more modern mechanics and a certain influence from Souls-type games.
Silent Hill f blends the classic with the challenging
The game will feature only short-range weapons, which increases tension in encounters with enemies. These weapons will degrade with use, and we will only have three available slots to equip them. To keep them in good condition, we will have tool kits, which adds a layer of inventory management.
Enemies will be fast, aggressive, and difficult to avoid, making stealth not always a viable option. To survive, it will be necessary to master dodges, charged attacks, and a resistance bar that depletes when performing actions and recharges with perfect dodges. Attacks will be executed with the controller triggers, differentiating between light and heavy attacks.
In addition to these elements, Silent Hill f will include:
-
Bosses with a style similar to From Software games
-
Free exploration with optional areas within a bounded open world
-
Mandatory and secondary puzzles more elaborate than ever
-
Five different endings, including the return of the UFO ending
-
Upgrade system with useful perks
-
Immersive 3D sound design and great ambient work
Konami describes this project as a great entry point to the saga for new players, without leaving out veterans. The overall tone is very positive, and everything indicates that the wait will be worth it. If all goes as planned, Silent Hill f will arrive on Xbox and other platforms before the end of September.
