Resident Evil Requiem was released on February 27th and, just a few days later, it’s already making waves for more than just its gameplay. The new survival horror game from Capcom has achieved an average user rating of 9.5 on Metacritic, placing it at the top of the platform’s historical ranking in that category.

This is no small feat. With this average, the game is competing directly with other titles that have traditionally dominated user lists. In fact, it’s virtually tied with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which has a very similar score and is alternating positions based on the volume of new reviews.

Resident Evil Requiem Achieves a 9.5 User Rating on Metacritic

Metacritic collects both press reviews and user opinions, and it’s in the latter category where Resident Evil Requiem has surprised. With an average rating of around 9.5, it surpasses or equals historic names like Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, or The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the user rating category.

That being said, it’s essential to keep things in perspective. User ratings can fluctuate over time, especially when the number of reviews grows rapidly after a game’s release. It wouldn’t be surprising if the average rating adjusts slightly as more players complete the adventure and leave their feedback.

Regardless, the game’s strong start is hard to ignore. In its first week, Resident Evil Requiem has achieved something that few games manage: it’s become part of the conversation as one of the best-rated titles by the community on Metacritic. And for a franchise with such a rich history, that’s no small feat.
