The success of the recent re-releases of Resident Evil has driven Capcom to continue rescuing its classics with current technology. Following the remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, the Japanese company is already working on a new version of Resident Evil 0, the prequel originally released on GameCube in 2002.
Sources close to the project claim that development has been underway for several years under the codename “Chamber”, a nod to the protagonist’s surname, Rebecca Chambers. Additionally, the motion capture team Beyond Capture Studios (which collaborated on Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6) is reportedly involved in the production, lending credibility to the report.
Details of the Resident Evil 0 remake: changes, actors, and new plotlines
One of the most notable details is the inclusion of actor Jon McLaren, known for playing Star-Lord in the video game Guardians of the Galaxy. According to his resume, he is participating in “Project Chamber” as the lead actor, suggesting that he could be playing Billy Coen, the game’s co-protagonist alongside Rebecca.
The remake would maintain the core story of the original but with new sequences and a more cinematic approach. One of the additions would focus on the game’s opening scene on the train, where the conductor (a character barely mentioned in the 2002 version) would now have a much more significant role. In one of the scenes, he would ask Rebecca for help to stop the train, only to betray her later and leave her trapped with a horde of infected.
More on the plot
Later on, this character would reappear in an advanced area of the story alongside another mysterious individual with knowledge about the virus events. Although no further details have been revealed, everything points to the remake expanding the plot and exploring new aspects of the Resident Evil universe.
For now, Capcom has not made any official announcements, but the leaks suggest that development is active and in an advanced stage. If confirmed, Resident Evil 0 Remake would join the list of projects that reaffirm the studio’s intention to reimagine the entire classic saga with modern standards.
