Three years after shutting off the updates for the updates of Red Dead Online, Rockstar Games has surprised us today with new content for the multiplayer of Red Dead Redemption 2. The update, titled Strange Tales of the West, introduces four new missions and has reactivated speculation about a possible re-release of the game on next-generation consoles.
This content, which flirts with mystery and the paranormal, has been received as an unexpected gesture towards the community, which since 2022 saw RDO as an abandoned project. The arrival of new missions has been enough to reignite hope that the game can make the definitive leap to Xbox Series, PS5, and even Nintendo Switch 2.
The new RDO missions fuel rumors of a Red Dead Redemption 2 re-release
The Strange Tales of the West update is reminiscent of Undead Nightmare, although it doesn’t quite reach the same scale. Its importance, however, lies not in the content itself, but in what it represents: Rockstar is once again looking at Red Dead Redemption 2, in the final stretch of GTA VI development.
This move has coincided with new rumors about native versions of the game for PS5 and Xbox Series, fueled by alleged leaks from the voice actor of John Marston. Although nothing has been confirmed, the return of content to RDO could be part of a strategy to reintroduce the game on current consoles and extend its commercial life with technical improvements.
Furthermore, it’s not far-fetched to think about a possible version for Nintendo Switch 2, where there’s already speculation about a catalog of high-profile ports for the end of this year. If confirmed, it would be a new milestone for one of Rockstar’s most ambitious titles.
New Red Dead Online content coming tomorrow as part of the event month, announced in a community email:
