Following the major leak of Xbox Magnus that we discussed yesterday, the landscape of the next generation is starting to take shape with more clarity. The rumors are once again pointing to 2027 as the year chosen for the technological leap, and it seems that Microsoft won’t be alone: a new report suggests that Sony is also preparing its move for the same period.
According to Insider Gaming, the well-known leaker KeplerL2 has shared on the NeoGAF forums that Sony’s current plan is to launch PS6 in 2027, unless there are unexpected delays. The user was responding to various questions about the recent collaboration video between Sony and AMD, which hinted at graphical and hardware improvements applicable to their next console.
A new generation that could arrive simultaneously again
In one of his messages, KeplerL2 stated that the future Xbox “Magnus” will also receive the same AMD optimizations, confirming that both manufacturers are working on a shared technological basis. This collaboration would have a direct impact on graphical performance, energy consumption, and new AI functions integrated into the next-generation chips.
However, the two machines would still follow different paths: Microsoft would bet on a hybrid system between console and PC, while Sony would maintain a more traditional structure focused on the domestic experience. This would all be theoretical, as there’s nothing official on the table to allow us to consider all the possibilities.
For now, everything points to 2027 being the key year for the generational shift, although in the case of both PS6 and the new Xbox, we’re only talking about unconfirmed information. You can review our coverage of Magnus at the following link to learn about all the technical details that have been leaked so far.
