Microsoft has dropped for the first time Project Helix, the codename for what will be the next generation of Xbox. The company has published a small teaser on social media featuring the project’s logo, marking the first public step towards the brand’s future hardware.
Although information is still limited, the most interesting details have come through statements from Asha Sharma, head of Microsoft’s gaming division, who has shared some comments on the direction this new platform will take.
Project Helix Aims to Create a Hybrid Xbox Console and PC
According to the executive, Project Helix won’t be just another traditional console, but a platform designed to further merge the worlds of Xbox and PC.
- The idea is to offer a system capable of running Xbox ecosystem games and PC titles, reinforcing the strategy Microsoft has been pushing for years to connect both platforms within the same environment. In practice, this would mean a machine focused on high performance and providing a more open experience within the gaming ecosystem.
For now, no specifications or technical details are known, but everything points to the project seeking to make a significant leap in power compared to the current generation.
Additionally, Microsoft has announced that it will share more information about Project Helix during the upcoming Game Developers Conference, which will take place from March 9th to 13th in San Francisco. At this event, the company will meet with studios and partners to start discussing the projects that will mark the next stage of Xbox.
For the time being, the name Project Helix remains an internal codename, and there’s still time to learn the final name of the console, its design, or even possible next-generation accessories that may accompany it.
