In recent hours, a never-before-seen gameplay video has been circulating on social media, revealing one of the most interesting canceled projects from Ubisoft. It’s about Prince of Persia Kindred Blades, the game that was meant to be the direct sequel to Warrior Within and was ultimately discarded in favor of The Two Thrones.
The leaked material shows a very early stage of development, but it’s enough to get a clear idea of the direction the project was taking before it was canceled.
The Prince of Persia that never saw the light of day
In Kindred Blades, the Prince returned to Babylon with Kaileena after the events of Warrior Within. However, the city was no longer the same: a devastating war, the capture of the protagonist, and Kaileena’s sacrifice once again unleashed the Sands of Time, marking the beginning of a much darker adventure.
The central concept revolved around the duality of the Prince, alternating between “light” phases and those dominated by his darker side, something that affected not only the story but also his appearance and behavior in combat.
The leaked prototype video shows many of the classic pillars of the saga:
-
Acrobatics and platforming are heavily emphasized
-
Dark and violent tone, inherited from Warrior Within
-
More brutal and choreographed eliminations, including double stealth kills
-
A focus on more open and explorable environments, moving away from the more linear structure of other chapters
According to old testimonials from developers, Kindred Blades aimed to offer a more ambitious experience in terms of design, with larger maps and greater freedom of movement, something that was ultimately discarded during development.
Although the project was never published, this leak allows us to see the direction the saga could have taken before Ubisoft opted for Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, making Kindred Blades one of the great “what ifs” of the franchise.
