The agreement includes the development, production, and distribution of a big-budget film that will explore the military universe of the saga, with over 30 games released since 2003 and more than 500 million copies sold worldwide. Although details about the plot have not been revealed, everything suggests that Paramount wants to turn Call of Duty into its next big movie franchise, with the possibility of expanding into television as well.
Call of Duty comes to the big screen with Paramount and Skydance
The recent merger between Paramount and Skydance, valued at $8 billion, has opened the door to major moves in the entertainment industry. After securing the rights to UFC and attracting the creators of Stranger Things, the studio is now making a big splash with Call of Duty, a license that has never been adapted into a movie or TV show.
Paramount CEO David Ellison has expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying it’s a “dream come true” as a fan of the saga. Meanwhile, Rob Kostich, president of Activision, highlighted that the movie will maintain the essence of the franchise: “visceral, intense, and with the action that has united millions of players worldwide).
This move strengthens the growing bond between video games and cinema, following recent successes like Super Mario Bros., Sonic the Hedgehog, or the upcoming Minecraft Movie. And now, with Paramount at the helm and Activision backing it, everything suggests that Call of Duty could become one of the next box office phenomena.
