The end of 2025 has also served as a starting point to look to the future. Following Xbox’s year-end message, one of the studios that has garnered the most attention is Obsidian, which has already made its intentions clear for 2026, a year that is shaping up to be particularly active for the team.
In a pivotal moment for the studio (just weeks after the return of Tim Cain, the original creator of Fallout), Obsidian has taken to Xbox Wire to confirm that its current main projects will continue to receive significant support over the next twelve months.
Obsidian Prepares Major Updates for Avowed, Grounded 2, and The Outer Worlds 2
- In the case of Avowed, the studio has confirmed that coinciding with the game’s first anniversary, a major update will arrive, featuring New Game Plus and additional improvements yet to be detailed. This is not just a simple patch, but a step towards extending the RPG’s lifespan.
- Grounded 2 will be, according to Obsidian, one of the titles with the fastest update pace in 2026. The plan involves several content drops throughout the year, starting with a major winter update, followed by an intermediate update, and culminating in a particularly ambitious expansion, described by the studio itself as “truly massive“.
- Lastly, The Outer Worlds 2 also has a defined calendar. Obsidian has confirmed that the game will feature at least two DLCs, and the studio is also debating what type of ongoing improvements will be offered to players throughout the next year, beyond paid content.
With these statements, Obsidian makes it clear that 2026 will be a key year for its three current major projects, reinforcing its commitment to post-launch support and anticipating a very active calendar within the Xbox ecosystem.
