NVIDIA has officially introduced DLSS 5, the latest evolution of its AI-based scaling technology. The company claims it’s the most significant advancement in computer graphics since the arrival of real-time ray tracing in 2018, a statement that clearly highlights the leap they aim to achieve with this new generation.
The announcement focuses on a new technique called “real-time neural rendering,” a system that utilizes neural networks to generate and enhance images in real-time. According to NVIDIA, this approach will enable the creation of much more complex graphics without proportionally increasing the hardware load.
DLSS 5 Bets on Real-Time Neural Rendering
- The new version of DLSS seeks to go beyond the simple intelligent scaling we’ve seen in previous versions. With real-time neural rendering, part of the graphics process is generated using AI models trained to reconstruct visual details more efficiently.
This could translate to better image quality, higher performance, and much more complex scenes, especially important for games that utilize demanding technologies like advanced ray tracing.
- For now, NVIDIA has confirmed that DLSS 5 will first arrive on RTX 50 graphics cards, expected by the end of this year. Not all compatible games have been detailed, nor if previous RTX versions will be able to take advantage of some part of the technology.
The company is once again betting on artificial intelligence as one of the pillars of the future of PC graphics, in an evolution that could mark the next big visual leap in video games.
