New update: The Alters removes AI and solves over 50 errors, many of them important

The Alters, one of the most surprising science fiction titles of the year, has just received its largest update to date. Patch 1.1.0 brings over 50 improvements and fixes, but most notably, it includes a highly anticipated change: the complete removal of AI-generated text.

The decision comes after last month’s controversy, when several players detected AI-generated content within the game, prompting criticism from the community. Now, 11 bit studios has reacted and removed all known traces of such content, replacing it with hand-reviewed and adapted text by the team.

All the Improvements in The Alters Patch 1.1.0

This patch includes adjustments in all areas of the game: story, localization, bugs, achievements, performance, and more. Here are some of the most significant changes:

STORY AND MISSION CHANGES

• Multiple errors related to the rebellion logic of the Alters have been corrected.

• A problem that prevented progress in the main mission of Act 2 if the Research Laboratory was eliminated has been solved.

• The error that allowed ALX to appear in Act 3 when it shouldn’t have been present has been fixed.

• The Alters no longer ignore new Personal Habitats if the previous ones were eliminated.

• Personal Cabins now correctly prevent rebellions in the Dormitory.

• Adjustments have been made to the pace and conditions of several Alter side missions.

• The “New Perspective” lesson is no longer incorrectly required for certain dialogues with Lena.

• The premature availability of ALX research before unlocking the Luminator has been corrected.

LOCALIZATION AND TEXT

• All AI-generated text (LLM) has been replaced in:

  • Command Center.

  • Video subtitles in the Social Room.

• Multiple incorrect or missing translations have been corrected.

• Several missing voiceovers have been added.

BUGS AND FIXES

• Resources that remained blocked without producing anything.

• On PlayStation 5: crash when quickly closing the Tree of Life.

• Incorrectly displayed negative production time.

• Broken collisions during planet exploration.

• Intermittent freezes when scaling or fast traveling.

• Dialogue icon visible on Alter panels even when no conversations were available.

• Lack of stimulation when watching movies; now adjusted correctly.

• Improved state effect when using the Contemplation Room.

• Achievement “A quantum singularity” now activates correctly.

• Adjustments to audio, visual effects, and synchronization of the Luminator with Jan’s hand.

• Tutorials that were too long when watching movies are now shortened.

• The HUD scales better with different resolutions and configurations.

• On Steam Deck: fixed freeze when advancing to the next chapter.

• Over 50 additional minor errors have been eliminated.

PERFORMANCE

• General performance improvements have been implemented across all platforms.

• Reduced vegetation popping on low graphics settings.

• Corrections to duplicate diary entries in the Alters’ News menu.

• Notifications are now visible when disassembling advanced outposts.

• Improved collision detection and teleportation points.

• Camera and HUD issues in specific situations, such as when an Alter is present in Act 3, have been resolved.

• Visual tutorial behavior has been improved.

Additionally, elements such as movie stimulation, Alter interaction, and the mood and contemplation system have been adjusted and balanced.

The Alters is available on PC and consoles and is part of the Xbox Game Pass catalog. If you tried it at launch, now is a great time to pick it up again. And if you haven’t yet, this version 1.1.0 offers a much more polished experience, without AI and with all systems improved.
