After a somewhat turbulent launch due to issues with Microsoft’s servers, The Outer Worlds 2 is starting to settle in with a new update now available for Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and PC. Patch 1.0.4 doesn’t introduce new content, but it does offer a long list of optimizations and fixes that significantly improve the experience.

Far from being a simple technical revision, this update fixes issues that affected mission progress, the saving system, and overall stability. Obsidian has taken player feedback into account to adjust aspects of balance, performance, and weapon behavior, fine-tuning their recent sci-fi RPG even further.
Improvements included in The Outer Worlds 2’s 1.0.4 update
Among the most notable new features in the patch are:
-
Fix for crashes when loading damaged save files due to errors in the Favorites management system.
-
Adjustments to main and side quests, where certain objects or advantages were preventing progress in the story.
-
General performance optimization, especially in areas with high enemy density or particle effects.
-
Rebalancing of weapons and abilities, to improve consistency between classes and combat styles.
-
Fix for bugs in menus and HUD, which were affecting the display of statistics and descriptions.
-
Improvements to auto-save stability and loading times between planets.
Obsidian has confirmed that this is the first of several planned patches, and that the next one will focus on graphical improvements specifically for Xbox Series, as well as new accessibility options.
