MindsEye aimed high (perhaps too high), but reality has been very different. After its release, the ambitious title from Build a Rocket Boy has become one of the biggest failures of 2025, both in terms of criticism and sales. And now, according to IGN, the studio is facing a possible massive staff cut.
A internal source cited by the media outlet claims that the company led by Leslie Benzies has formally started a 45-day consultation process, a necessary legal step in the UK when a company considers laying off more than 100 workers in a period of less than three months.
MindsEye sinks Build a Rocket Boy and threatens the studio’s future
According to the collected data, Build a Rocket Boy has around 300 employees in the UK and at least 200 more abroad, which would put its global workforce above 500 employees. If the layoff of 100 or more people is confirmed, the company would suffer a significant cut in its human resources.
The news comes after the resounding failure of MindsEye, a game that generated a lot of expectations due to the involvement of the former director of GTA, but has been criticized for its technical issues, its lack of gameplay depth, and a story that has not managed to connect with the audience.
Until an official announcement is made, the next few days will be crucial for the future of the studio and its ambitious project. For now, uncertainty hangs over one of the most controversial releases of the year.
