Yes, you’ve read that right: Microsoft is the publisher of 6 of the 10 best-selling games on PlayStation platforms during the second quarter of 2025. This is revealed by the latest report from Circana, shared by analyst Mat Piscatella, who hasn’t hidden his surprise when reviewing the data. According to his words, he was “staring at the table for a while”, highlighting that it would be hard to believe for anyone who saw this list in 2015.
The report covers the period from April 6 to July 5, 2025, and includes both physical and digital sales on PlayStation. And the result is clear: Microsoft has managed to conquer the top with titles that were once synonymous with Xbox.
The top-selling games on PlayStation are led by Microsoft games
These are the 10 best-selling games on PlayStation consoles during the second quarter of the year:
-
Forza Horizon 5 – Microsoft
-
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered – Microsoft
-
MLB The Show 25 – Sony
-
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 – Microsoft
-
Doom: The Dark Ages – Microsoft
-
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle – Microsoft
-
Minecraft – Microsoft
-
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows – Ubisoft
-
Grand Theft Auto V – Take-Two
-
WWE 2K25 – Take-Two
Six of the top 10 games belong to Xbox Game Studios, including franchises like Forza, Doom, Indiana Jones, Call of Duty, or Elder Scrolls, many of which have been historically associated with Microsoft’s console. The presence of Minecraft also reinforces its cross-platform role in the current industry.
A multi-platform strategy that’s paying off
The most striking thing is that these numbers come from PlayStation consoles, a situation that was unthinkable just a few years ago. Microsoft’s strategy of expanding its games to other platforms seems to be working, not just in terms of reach, but also in sales.
“Wild times in the console market these days. Imagine showing this list to someone in 2015”, wrote Mat Piscatella, underlining the unexpected nature of this moment for the traditional market.
With Black Ops 7, Avowed, Towerborne, Flight Simulator 2024, and other upcoming games, Xbox’s presence in the multi-platform market will continue to grow in the coming quarters.
