Microsoft continues to fine-tune its ecosystem, and this time it’s one of its oldest social features that’s getting the axe. The company has confirmed that Xbox social clubs will be disappearing in the coming weeks, putting an end to a tool that has served to create communities within the console itself for years.
This doesn’t come as a complete surprise. As we previously reported on Generación Xbox a few weeks ago, this feature had been on borrowed time, and now Microsoft is making it official. The warning has already started going out to users, making it clear that the Clubs section within “Friends and Community Updates” will also be eliminated. Although there’s no exact date, its disappearance is imminent.
Xbox eliminates social clubs and reinforces other community features
Microsoft explains that while social clubs are disappearing, players will still have multiple options to connect with each other. These include Xbox messages, integrated Discord on the console, and group chat, which have gained significant traction within the ecosystem in recent years.
This change reflects how online gaming has evolved. Social clubs have lost prominence in favor of more direct tools and external platforms, and now Xbox is betting on simplifying the experience and focusing on what’s actually being used.
In practice, this means that creating communities within the Xbox interface will no longer be possible, but connections between players will remain stronger than ever through other systems. A logical move considering the platform’s current trajectory, and one that confirms what we’ve been seeing for some time now.
