Over the past few hours, Xbox Game Pass users had detected the disappearance of usual discounts on DLC and Call of Duty points, something that generated confusion within the community. Finally, Microsoft has clarified the situation in statements to Kotaku, explaining the reason for the change and how it will be applied from now on.
According to a company spokesperson, discounts on downloadable content (DLC, virtual currency, and add-ons) will no longer be available within the service. Instead, players will receive compensation through Xbox reward points, integrated into the Microsoft Rewards program.
Microsoft replaces discounts with reward points
The company stated that this decision aims to unify the Game Pass and Xbox Rewards benefit system, allowing players to obtain advantages in a more flexible way, without relying on individual discounts per subscription. In this way, Call of Duty points and other additional content will no longer have specific discounts within Game Pass, but can be redeemed in the form of redeemable points through Microsoft Rewards, which offers gift cards, Xbox Store balance, and other digital incentives.
Microsoft ensures that this change does not affect the global offers of the Xbox Store, only the discounts linked to Game Pass, and is part of a broader review of the benefit system after the recent restructuring of the Essential, Premium, and Ultimate plans. Although many users regret the direct disappearance of discounts, the move aims to strengthen the integration of Rewards as a central loyalty program within the Xbox ecosystem, with a more uniform and user-controlled model, we will see if these changes ultimately work out for them in the long run.
