Bungie continues to reveal important details about Marathon, and one of the aspects that most concerned the community is now clarified: the shooter will feature full cross-progression between platforms, and console players will also be able to opt out of matchmaking with PC users if they so desire.
This information comes from an official Q&A session with the development team, where they explained how the balance between devices and control types will work.
Marathon will allow account linking and matchmaking type selection
According to Bungie, players will be able to link their accounts to maintain progress across platforms, whether on console or PC. This includes unlocks, progression, and content obtained within the game.
Regarding competitive balance, the studio ensures that controls have been carefully adjusted to guarantee fairness between controllers and keyboard/mouse. However, console players will have the option to exclude themselves from PC matchmaking, opting for console-only matches if they prefer a more homogeneous experience.
With this decision, Marathon aims to offer flexibility without imposing mandatory cross-play, a point that often generates debate in competitive shooters. Bungie continues to fine-tune one of the game’s fundamental pillars before its next public phase.
