In 1982, the first Football Manager was born, the one that inspired an entire generation and without which we might never have had a PC Fútbol. The game came back to life with a remastered version in 2016, known as Football Star Manager on mobile devices, but now its reach will expand and it will finally arrive on Steam.
The title will arrive on Valve’s platform on August 14th, a date that coincides with the start of the new Premier League season in England. The trailer for this new version mentions that it will be “the only Football Manager to be released this year”, a clear reference to the painful cancellation of Football Manager 25.
What’s old works
This original Kevin Toms series ended in 1992 with the third version of Football Manager, a decade of releases that inspired generations. The name resurfaced in 2005 when Sports Interactive and Eidos parted ways and lost the rights to the name, which would remain with the creators of the Championship Manager saga.
Since 2005, the franchise has always had an annual release, with 2025 being the exception. The reasons for the cancellation of the title are several, but mainly they have to do with a complete change of the game engine, something that will be reflected next year with the new release, with total certainty.
