After months of anticipation, Hyperkin has finally launched The Competitor, its new premium controller designed for Xbox, PC, and cloud gaming. Since its announcement at the beginning of the year at CES 2025, this controller has generated considerable hype, thanks to its symmetrical thumbstick design (a rarity in official Xbox controllers) and its multi-platform compatibility, which eliminates the typical configuration problems on PC and Steam.
But what really sets it apart is not just its ergonomics, but its advanced technology, such as the Hall-Effect sensors in the shoulder buttons and triggers, which eliminate stick drift and offer ideal precision for competitive games. The most striking thing is that, despite its premium features, The Competitor arrives with a price of just $49.99, a figure that positions it as one of the most accessible options on the market without sacrificing quality.
The Competitor features Hall Effect technology
Available in four colors (white, black, blue, and gold, although the latter two have not yet been confirmed for release in Europe), this controller promises to be the perfect gift for the holidays, especially for those seeking superior performance without breaking the bank. Slade Dude Suzuki, product development leader at Hyperkin, highlighted that “the response from gamers has been overwhelming“, confirming that the controller has connected with the demand for an innovative yet accessible controller.

Beyond its design, The Competitor stands out for its technical features, designed for demanding gamers. The thumbsticks not only incorporate Hall-Effect sensors (which prevent wear and drift), but also allow users to change the caps between concave or convex designs, according to their preference. Additionally, the triggers also use this technology, ensuring precise response in shooters and other genres that require quick reflexes.
Rear buttons and almost everything adjustable to fit
For added comfort, the controller includes two programmable rear buttons (with a lock function to prevent accidental presses), a muteable integrated microphone, and a 3.5mm jack for headphones, facilitating communication in online matches. But where The Competitor really seems to deliver is in its complication-free compatibility. For the lazy like me, it’s ideal.

Unlike other symmetrical controllers that require constant reconfigurations on PC, this controller keeps the buttons correctly mapped from the start, avoiding the frustration of on-screen messages that don’t match the inputs. With a robust construction, Metal Glide Rings for added durability, and a segmented D-Pad ideal for 2D games.
