Few games can boast of maintaining a solid commercial pace over time, and this is one of those cases. The open-world RPG set in the Harry Potter universe continues to attract players across all platforms, reinforcing its position as one of the recent phenomena in the industry.
Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Software have confirmed a new commercial milestone that highlights the reach of their proposal. The figures not only reflect the initial launch hype but also an unusual ability to keep selling months later, thanks to word of mouth, updates, and its constant presence in digital promotions.
Hogwarts Legacy reaches 40 million copies sold worldwide
According to data shared by the publisher, the game has already surpassed 40 million copies sold since its release, a figure that places it among the most successful titles of the last decade. By the end of March, over 34 million copies had been accounted for, meaning it has added around six million more in just eight months.
- The title debuted on Xbox Series, PS5, and PC in February 2023, expanding its release to Xbox One and PS4 in May of the same year, later to Nintendo Switch in November 2023, and finally to Switch 2 in June 2025. This progressive expansion of platforms has been crucial in maintaining its long-term commercial momentum.
Additionally, the game continues to benefit from its presence in major promotional campaigns. It can currently be downloaded for free on PC via Epic Games Store until December 18, which is likely to further boost its player base and global visibility.
An achievement that confirms the magical universe still has enormous appeal and that this adaptation has managed to connect with a much broader audience than expected.
