The Halo universe could be on the verge of a significant expansion. Various sources close to the franchise claim that 343 Industries and Xbox Studios are preparing two major projects for 2026: a full remake of Halo: Combat Evolved and a new live service-style multiplayer game to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the saga.
Well-known leaker Rebs Gaming has reiterated that the Combat Evolved remake has been in development for some time and would utilize a hybrid engine combining Unreal Engine 5 and the classic Blam!, allowing for modernized graphics while maintaining the original’s essence. According to the leak, Abstraction studio, part of the Virtuos group (responsible for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater), would be handling this ambitious project.
Rumors about the future of Halo: a remake and a new project on the way
Additionally, insider Halo Leaks has revealed the existence of a new multiplayer title with a live service focus, developed to provide a long-term experience. Although it’s unclear whether it will include competitive or cooperative modes, it’s been ruled out as a battle royale.
Both projects are reportedly slated for a 2026 release, coinciding with the saga’s anniversary. For now, Microsoft has not officially confirmed either project, but it’s expected that on October 24th, during the Halo World Championship Deep Dive, more will be revealed about the immediate future of Xbox’s most iconic franchise.
