The end is near and it’s getting closer. Anthem, BioWare’s ambitious project launched in 2019, is living its final days before its servers shut down for good on January 12th, putting an end to any possibility of playing, even solo, due to its permanent internet connection.

During this last week, many players have returned to Bastion to take one last flight, relive missions, explore scenarios, and bid farewell to a game that, despite its problems, left a mark on part of the community. Social media and forums are filled with goodbye messages, screenshots, and shared memories among freelancers.

The definitive goodbye to Anthem and its community

On platforms like Reddit, farewell messages are multiplying. Posts titled “one last flight over Bastion” or “farewell, Freelancer” reflect the general sentiment: nostalgia, frustration, and affection for a proposal that never quite lived up to its promises. Many agree that, with more time and support, the game could have had a very different fate.

The post-launch management and cancellation of Anthem Next continue to be criticized by EA and BioWare. Some players have even publicly asked for an offline patch that would allow the game to be preserved after the server shutdown, although there is no official confirmation on this matter yet.

Currently, Anthem is no longer sold digitally, although physical console copies and PC keys are still circulating in secondary markets. For many, these last days are not so much a bitter farewell as an opportunity to close a chapter and pay tribute to a title that, despite its mistakes, offered a unique experience of flight and cooperative combat.

On January 12th, Bastion will fall silent. And with that, Anthem will definitively become a part of history.
