11 bit studios has officially announced the arrival of Frostpunk 2 on consoles, and we already have a date marked in ice: September 18, 2025. On that day, the game will be available on Xbox Series and PlayStation 5, both in digital format and in two physical collector’s editions. The best part is that Xbox players will be able to enjoy it from the first minute thanks to its direct arrival on Game Pass.
The new chapter in this post-apocalyptic strategy and survival saga continues the story of the City that must not fall, and it does so with a strong technical and playable focus to ensure a seamless transition from PC to consoles. According to the studio, the console version has been completely adapted to offer a fluid, comfortable, and intuitive experience with a controller, without sacrificing depth.
Frostpunk 2 on Consoles: Direct Launch on Game Pass, Options, and Improvements
- Frostpunk 2 arrives with a new and improved interface, specifically designed for consoles. The team has learned from the original version of the first game, refining a redesigned circular interface compatible with joysticks, designed to make the player feel in control of the city without complications. Everything is oriented towards making menus and strategic decisions handle naturally on Xbox.
- Additionally, quick controls with the top triggers to navigate between districts have been incorporated, as well as a dynamic radial menu that reacts to the type of resource or element selected, showing only relevant actions. This makes control much more direct and clear, even in moments of tension.
Igor Skibinski, the game’s production coordinator, has pointed out that many ideas from the original version were redesigned from scratch, since Frostpunk 2 is more complex and demanding. However, the goal has always been to guarantee a barrier-free strategic experience on consoles, demonstrating that this type of game can feel just as natural on Xbox as on PC.
And if that’s not enough, the PC version will also benefit from this adaptation: after the launch, it will receive an update to use the console interface when connecting a controller.
The most passionate players will also be able to acquire two physical collector’s editions:
-
Icebreaker Edition: includes the complete game on disc, a New London diorama, a digital novel, and an artbook with the game’s development.
-
Whiteout Edition: adds an LED-lit box, access to the three future DLCs (as an update to the Deluxe Edition), a keychain, postcards, stickers, and a random faction embroidered patch.
With a darker story, even tougher moral decisions, and a disputed power structure, Frostpunk 2 aims high in its arrival on Xbox. On September 18, our leadership capacity… and our humanity will be put to the test.
