In recent months, the silence surrounding Forza Motorsport has raised alarms among fans after the wave of layoffs a few months ago at Microsoft. Following its release in 2023 and the subsequent internal restructuring of Microsoft, which affected not only the Turn 10 Studios team, many assumed that the saga had been put on hold in favor of the success of Forza Horizon. But now, Phil Spencer has wanted to clarify that the franchise is still alive and that his studio needs time to plan its next step.
During an interview with Famitsu, the director of Microsoft Gaming was direct when asked if the series had been canceled: “No!” he replied without hesitation. Spencer explained that Turn 10 continues to be a key pillar within Xbox Game Studios and that the team “just needs a period of rest and restructuring after a very demanding development cycle“.
Forza Motorsport is still standing
The executive insisted that the project has not been abandoned, but is “on creative pause” while Turn 10 evaluates how to approach the future of the simulator. “We want each new Forza Motorsport installment to be special, not just an annual update. That means listening to the community, learning from mistakes, and coming back with something that really advances the saga,” he stated.
Spencer also took the opportunity to thank the team for their work during the last installment, highlighting their effort to modernize the game’s graphics engine and physics. “The result was a solid title, visually impressive, and with an incredible technical foundation to build upon,” he added.
Rumors about the cancellation of the franchise skyrocketed after the layoffs, which affected several Turn 10 developers. Spencer’s statements confirm that the studio remains active and tied to the brand, although for now, there is no new installment on the short-term horizon.
