The conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is moving forward in silence within Square Enix. Although the project still lacks an official title and a complete public presentation, recent statements from director Naoki Hamaguchi suggest that the Japanese company may showcase it sooner than many expect.
During a recent interview, the creative lead briefly discussed the development status and dropped a significant hint: the studio’s current intention is to unveil the game at some point in 2026. While not a definitive confirmation, this is the clearest signal yet regarding when the official announcement might take place.
Square Enix Aims to Reveal Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 in 2026
Hamaguchi explained that the team is working intensively on the third chapter of the saga and that the project is progressing at a good pace. According to the director himself, the company expects the announcement to be not too far off, which could place the possible first trailer or presentation during the next year.
- The development also maintains strong continuity with previous installments. Approximately 95% of the team that worked on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is still involved in this new installment, allowing for consistency in design, mechanics, and creative approach.
- However, the goal is not to simply repeat the previous formula. The team wants to introduce new mechanics and significant changes to the gameplay, avoiding the perception that the third chapter is merely a direct extension of the previous one.
On the other hand, Tetsuya Nomura has already chosen the game’s definitive title, although Square Enix plans to keep it under wraps until the official presentation. Meanwhile, some industry rumors suggest that the title might not be a timed exclusive for PlayStation, opening the door to other platforms.
For now, it’s a waiting game, but all indications are that 2026 could be the year Square Enix showcases the final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake for the first time.
