Square Enix is moving forward with the ambitious Final Fantasy VII Remake project, and although there’s still much to be seen, one of the biggest questions has already been answered internally. The third and final installment of the remake has an official name, although it won’t be made public just yet.
The confirmation comes from Naoki Hamaguchi, the project’s director, during a recent interview as part of the promotion of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on new platforms. According to him, the decision-making process was finalized weeks ago, and it was Tetsuya Nomura who made the final decision between the two remaining options.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: The Title Exists, But We’ll Have to Wait
Hamaguchi recalls that after narrowing down the list to just two possible names, the choice was left up to Nomura after the Paris Games Week. Shortly after the event, the project’s creative lead chose the final title, thus closing one of the most symbolic aspects of this last installment.
For now, Square Enix is keeping quiet and reserving the announcement for a more suitable moment, possibly tied to a full presentation of the game or its first major trailer. As expected, speculation has already begun among fans of the series, especially after the subtitles Remake and Rebirth, although the company hasn’t confirmed any specific pattern.
In the same conversation, Hamaguchi also explained why the team has decided to continue using Unreal Engine 4 instead of switching to Unreal Engine 5. The reason is clear: the current engine has been deeply modified over the years to fit the project’s needs, and changing it now would cause more inconvenience than benefits.
Meanwhile, the development of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is moving forward in the background, with Square Enix dosing out information and preparing the ground for the conclusion of one of the most ambitious reinterpretations in video game history.
