Ubisoft continues to revamp its most iconic catalog to better adapt it to current consoles, and this time it’s the turn of one of its most influential titles. After several rumors in recent days, it’s now official that Far Cry 3 will receive an update to run at 60 FPS on next-generation consoles.
The confirmation came in a low-key manner, through a brief trailer published on the official PlayStation channel, announcing that the Classic Edition of the game will make the definitive leap in fluidity without any additional cost to players.
Far Cry 3 at 60 FPS: release date, platforms, and what the patch includes
The free update for Far Cry 3 will be available on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 and will be applied automatically on the following platforms:
-
Xbox Series
-
PlayStation 5
-
PlayStation 5 Pro
The patch unlocks the framerate to allow play at 60 frames per second, clearly improving the sense of control and overall smoothness of the experience. Ubisoft has not confirmed any additional changes to resolution or visual quality, so it seems that the improvement is focused exclusively on performance.
This is a particularly well-received update, as Far Cry 3 Classic Edition had been limited to 30 FPS on console for years, despite remaining one of the most valued chapters in the series. It’s worth noting that the game is included at no extra cost in Xbox Game Pass (Ultimate plan), as well as in PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, making it even easier to revisit the Rook Islands with a much more technically sound experience.
This move by Ubisoft reinforces its strategy of bringing its classics up to date, following similar patches seen recently in other important titles in its catalog.
