A few days ago, we had the chance to attend, invited by Bethesda Spain, the presentation of Fallout 76: Burning Springs. And the first thing that needs to be made clear is that this game has no limits. When it seemed like Appalachia had already shown everything it had to offer, the Bethesda team showed us how this new expansion transforms the world of Fallout 76 in a big way.
We’re not facing a simple update, but rather content that arrives with the size and ambition of a complete expansion. Ohio is added to the map, with new factions, enemies, weapons, and even unprecedented creatures. And the best part: it will be completely free for all players when it premieres in December 2025.
Post-nuclear Ohio, a new territory to explore
- Burning Springs takes us to Ohio, a region ravaged by nuclear war that completely changes the tone of the game. The scenarios show scorched deserts, improvised settlements, and landscapes as hostile as they are attractive to explore. Here, we’ll face new dangers, from bloodthirsty and looters, to original creatures like the mutacerdo, a species that we can tame and adopt in our C.A.M.P.
Additionally, this expansion debuts factions and characters that will give us a lot to talk about, such as the King of Oxide, a brilliant supermutant with whom we’ll need to collaborate. All this is accompanied by new workshops, public events, and a ton of activities that ensure content for all types of players, both veterans and newcomers.
The best
-
New region: Post-nuclear Ohio – A vast, arid, and devastated map to explore.
-
Necrophage character (Walton Goggins) – The actor from the Prime Video series lends his voice to his game version.
-
Bounty hunting missions – Dynamic contracts that can be accepted at the Last Resort bar.
-
New faction: The King of Oxide – A supermutant with great intelligence that will be a key piece in the expansion.
-
The mutacerdo – A new hostile creature that can also be domesticated in your C.A.M.P.
-
New public events – Cooperative activities that expand the game’s social dynamics.
-
New workshops – More options to build, customize, and defend your settlements.
-
Exclusive weapons and equipment – Including the iconic pistol from the TV series.
-
New characters and storylines – Expanding the background and narrative possibilities.
-
Fish and additional fauna – An unexpected addition that expands the ecosystem’s life.
The necrophage from the series arrives in the game
- One of the biggest attractions of this expansion is the inclusion of Walton Goggins, who lends his voice to his character from the Prime Video series. In Burning Springs, the necrophage becomes a key piece: we can work for him as bounty hunters, accepting contracts that will take us all over Ohio in search of prey and special rewards.
The idea is not for him to be a companion or playable character, but rather a recurring contact for us in the game world. From there, a system of contracts opens up, offering new missions and contracts, with rewards as juicy as the necrophage’s pistol that appears in the TV series, something that’s really cool if you like both universes.
A game that never stops growing
The most interesting thing about all this is how Bethesda keeps a game alive that many thought was closed years ago. Since its controversial launch in 2018, Fallout 76 has not stopped evolving, and Burning Springs is proof that there are still ambitious plans for the long term. Perhaps it’s a culmination of all the work done during this time. A transformation that has resulted in a game with undeniable quality and content today.
The new expansion not only adds content but also changes the way we experience Appalachia. The map grows, the challenges increase, and the crossover with the Prime Video series reinforces that transmedia connection that many fans were waiting for.
Fallout 76 still has much more to offer
Fallout 76: Burning Springs is, probably, the greatest opportunity to return to the Wasteland since Wastelanders. A new territory, unprecedented factions, surprising creatures, and the incorporation of a character as iconic as the necrophage make December a marked date on the calendar of any Fallout fan.
Bethesda doesn’t settle for maintaining the game: it reinvents it little by little. And after what we saw in this presentation, it’s clear that Fallout 76 is more alive than ever.
