While many eyes are on the fall releases, Electronic Arts is already thinking about something much more ambitious: building the future of its most popular franchises as connected platforms, not just traditional closed games. This has been confirmed by Laura Miele, President of EA Entertainment, in an exclusive interview where she makes it clear that the goal is to expand their presence beyond consoles or PCs.

One of the clearest examples is The Sims, which, instead of launching a traditional fifth installment, will evolve into a cross-play, living, and expanding multiplayer experience. Miele states that they are “redesigning the game’s technological foundation” to allow for more game modes, mobile content, online play, and even new forms of social interaction.
The Sims, Apex, Star Wars, and Marvel: EA’s pillars for the future
The idea behind this evolution is clear: to keep everything that players have achieved over the years and not force them to “start from scratch”. The Sims 4 has received over 85 pieces of content in 10 years, and will now transform into a persistent platform with connections between media, including its upcoming movie. Amazon and Margot Robbie’s team are working on this project, and EA is already planning content that will feed into both the game and the film.
- Another universe that could make the leap beyond video games is Apex Legends. Although there’s nothing official yet, EA acknowledges that it’s motivated to bring the story of its legends to the screen, characters with backgrounds that haven’t been explored in the game itself. “We want to do it in a way that respects the brand and gives depth to the Apex universe,” Miele commented.
- On the other hand, the agreement with Disney and Marvel remains strong. In addition to Star Wars Jedi 3 and the successful Galaxy of Heroes, EA has a number of projects in the works, including an MMO, an Iron Man game, and other unannounced titles. These will coexist with new installments like Skate, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, and future projects still under wraps.
According to Miele, the key is balance: investing in proprietary brands with massive community potential, like The Sims or Apex, while collaborating with powerful IPs like Star Wars or Marvel to offer variety and international muscle. The strategy is clear: fewer standalone games, more living and connected platforms with players.
