EA and Crytek confirm the shutdown of Warface and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare servers

The life cycle of several multiplayer titles is coming to an end. Electronic Arts and Crytek have confirmed the progressive shutdown of servers for two of their most veteran shooters: Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare and Warface. The measure mainly affects online features, which in practice means the end of the multiplayer experience.

Although this type of decision is not surprising for games with over a decade of history, the news has generated reactions among those who still had an active game or kept the title in physical format.

Closure dates for Warface and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will start losing its servers in phases. The first to close will be those of PlayStation 3, with a scheduled date of April 28th. For now, no specific dates have been detailed for other platforms such as Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4, or PC, although everything suggests that the process will be similar in the rest of the versions.

In the case of Warface, the calendar is already completely defined. The microtransaction store has been deactivated, and the refund process has been initiated for those who still had pending balance.

• On PC, the servers will remain active until May 27th.

• On console, the final closure will arrive on August 25th.

Since these titles are focused on online multiplayer, the disconnection of servers implies the total disappearance of their main modes. It’s the end of an era for two games that marked their moment in the free-to-play market and competitive shooters on console and PC.
