Next August 2nd, after a year of its release, it arrives on Xbox Series, one of the games that was a candidate for Game of the Year in 2024. We’re talking about Black Myth: Wukong, the game developed by the Chinese studio, Game Science and which goes beyond the simple copies of the Souls that have grown so much in recent times.
Now I’m talking to you in the first person, I played it on PC when it was launched last year, I bought it in digital version, the only one in which the game was edited at launch and I assure you, (I’m not being paid to say this) that it’s an impressive game in every way. From its handling, its story, its combat system and its technical aspect, it’s a game that will hook you without exaggerating, after playing 30 minutes, you’ll be completely trapped and won’t want to let it go.
Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox is worth playing
I don’t get excited easily with new releases, but Black Myth: Wukong has something that sets it apart from other titles that have passed through Xbox Series in recent years. It’s a mix of technical ambition, mythological respect and visual personality that, sincerely, I didn’t expect to find in a Chinese title. Since we saw it in its first demos with Unreal Engine 5, I knew there was something special about this project, that’s why I recommend it to those who are in doubt, don’t think about it too much, it’s a unique experience.
. Combat choreographed by martial artists
-
Animations captured with motion capture by the artist Yin Kai.
-
More than 70% of bosses and enemies are based on real choreographies.
-
Stick animations, dodges, parries and spells show a fluidity uncommon in the genre.
. Transformations and spells inspired by the myth
-
Includes a dozen transformations extracted from the myth of the “72 skills.”
-
Each form has a function: combat, infiltration, mobility, magic…
-
These skills mark the exploration and combat strategies.
Will it be released in physical format?
It would be very rare. The game arrived last year only in digital format for PC and PlayStation 5, months later a physical version was edited only for PlayStation 5, so, valuing the current state of the physical format on Xbox, unless a store like Limited Run manages to make it, it would be very strange to see it.

If you’re looking for something different on Xbox, Black Myth: Wukong is one of those releases that you shouldn’t miss. Action, art, technique and cultural respect come together in a game that can mark a before and after for Asian studios on console. I’m clear: on August 20th, it’s time to become the Monkey King again.
