A quarter of a century has passed since the release of Final Fantasy IX, a title that still hasn’t had its remake, something that has been discussed a lot in recent years, and what seemed like a done deal almost fell through the ground a few hours ago with a strong rumor of cancellation, which we even reported on in this same publication with some concern. In a masterful marketing move or an attempt by the developers to dispel this cancellation idea, Square Enix presented a film commemorating the game’s 25th anniversary.
The footage shows several of the most popular scenes from the PlayStation 1 title, which is just one part of the anniversary celebrations, which will also include other details for fans of the saga, such as brand-new merchandise, conceptual art, and several other things. The original version of Final Fantasy IX saw the light of day in 2000 and was led by Hiroyuki Ito, the same person behind Final Fantasy 12. The title was re-released as part of the “PS1 Classic” program in 2010 for PS3, PSP, and later, Vita users.

At that time, several Square Enix games appeared, which were later confirmed, such as the Chrono Cross remaster and Kingdom Hearts 4, and the PC version of Final Fantasy 7, among many others. Since then and until now, several sources have spoken and almost confirmed the remake of the ninth numbered installment, although none of them have come from the developer itself, or almost…
Naoki Yoshida, producer and game director at Square Enix, commented last year that a remake of the game in a style similar to the new Final Fantasy 7 would be too extensive for a single title, so everything seems to indicate that, if the development is indeed confirmed, the game would be delivered in parts, as happened with the aforementioned Final Fantasy 7.
