A long time ago, when Lionhead was at its peak, Black and White graced the covers of hundreds of gaming magazines. I’ve always been a big fan of the studio, and while my favorite game is Fable, their strategy game where you embody a God was also a favorite.
Molyneux has always wanted to give the player the role of being divine, capable of making decisions about others, and Black and White is the game that best captured that feeling, both within the studio’s published games and in the industry as a whole.
A Game with its Own Personality
Yesterday, I came across a game on Steam that powerfully reminds me of Lionhead’s legacy. It’s Demiurgos, a game currently being developed by the Argentine studio Tlön Industries. Honestly, since I saw it, I’ve fallen in love with it.
About Demiurgos
In the world of Demiurgos, the competition between gods is fierce. Here, you embody a deity like Marduk, Loki, Anubis, Mars, or Poseidon, and your goal is to defeat rival gods to claim exclusive celestial titles. Each god has unique divine abilities and privileges that define your playstyle, allowing you to choose to be a benevolent deity of light or a chaotic god of darkness.
The cosmic game board is a dynamic world filled with mortal pawns, where the living board is your arena. Here, you perform miracles and manage faith in a paused real-time world, balancing strategy with divine urgency to dominate the game. Your relationship with your followers is crucial, as you must listen to your followers and solve their problems to increase their devotion. You command your priests, upgrade them to advanced priests, and personalize your religion with different principles that reflect your divine vision.
Currently No Public Beta
World transformation is another key aspect of the game. You can reshape landscapes with powerful miracles and create ecosystems that reflect your divine will, shaping the world according to your design. But you’re not alone in this world, as you must confront rival deities in direct or indirect conflicts, with multiplayer support allowing for epic confrontations. Claiming exclusive victory points through unique and challenging conditions is the ultimate goal, and only one god can possess each title.
Currently, Demiurgos is in active development, with temporary art and experimental gameplay. Access to Demiurgos is restricted to invitations from friends and people close to the studio, but you can join their Discord to learn more and get opportunities to participate. In addition, future expansions are planned that will expand your pantheon with new deities and powers through DLCs and updates, enriching the divine experience.
