In an era where many games easily surpass budgets of over $100 million, it’s surprising that Cronos The New Dawn didn’t follow this trend. Bloober Team, the project’s developers, have clarified that the development was much more contained than speculated.
During an interview with the Polish media outlet Bankier.pl, Bloober Team’s CEO, Piotr Babieno, explained that rumors about a cost exceeding 100 million Polish zlotys (approximately $27.5 million or €23.5 million) are false. The game would have cost significantly less, although the exact figure was not revealed.
A “budget-friendly” survival horror game in comparison
The fact that the budget was lower than that amount puts Cronos The New Dawn in an unusual category within the current industry: that of “moderate” spending projects, despite being a high-profile title. This strategy allows the studio to recoup their investment sooner, reducing risks and ensuring greater profitability in the medium term.
Moreover, in a market where more and more productions are approaching blockbuster budgets, Bloober Team’s bet on a lower cost could make a significant difference, demonstrating that impactful experiences in the horror genre can be created without the need for exorbitant figures.
