As the launch of Crimson Desert approaches, new details about its gameplay system continue to emerge. One of the most frequently asked questions by the community is about moral freedom: will we be able to act like true outlaws throughout the adventure?
In a recent interview, Pearl Abyss clarified that it will be possible to commit certain crimes within the game world, although the system will have very defined limits. The story is built around Kliff and his group as central figures in the conflict, so it won’t be possible to completely transform the experience into a destruction campaign without consequences.
Crime and Consequences System in Crimson Desert
The studio has confirmed that players will be able to engage in illegal activities that will affect their reputation. This will have direct consequences, such as bounties on the protagonist’s head, the appearance of bounty hunters, and in some cases, even the possibility of ending up in prison, something that was already shown in a recent trailer.
However, it doesn’t seem like the game is designed to allow for indiscriminate massacres or a completely villainous approach. The alignment system will work more like a strategic tool: opting for questionable actions could bring temporary advantages, such as improved attack power, but it will also generate added risks.
According to the team, the idea is not to divide the adventure into a “good” or “bad” path, but to allow for adjustments based on the situation. The notoriety system will be another piece of the combat and progression puzzle, especially useful in complex encounters, but always within the limits set by the main story.
