Artificial intelligence continues to gain ground in the video game industry, especially in areas such as dubbing or generating synthetic voices. Some studios have already experimented with hybrid solutions that combine real recordings and text-to-speech systems to cover large databases or dynamic dialogues.
That won’t be the case for Crimson Desert. The ambitious open-world RPG developed by Pearl Abyss has opted for a traditional approach when it comes to the voice department.
Crimson Desert bets on 100% human dubbing
During an intervention on the Dropped Frames podcast, a representative of the studio confirmed that all Crimson Desert dialogues have been recorded by real actors, without resorting to artificial intelligence tools to generate voices.
The decision is striking considering the project’s scale. Crimson Desert will feature a large map and an extensive campaign, although this represents only a part of the game’s total content. Still, the studio has wanted to maintain a traditional recording process for all available languages.
This includes audio tracks in English, Simplified Chinese, and Korean, confirming that the production has opted for a complete and entirely human-performed dubbing. At a time when AI is being debated as a possible partial substitute in the industry, Pearl Abyss has decided to take a clear direction in this aspect for its next release, scheduled for March 2026.
