The Battlefield 6 community is still experimenting with the Portal mode, a tool that allows players to recreate classic maps and modes from the past and even pay homage to other well-known shooters. However, recreations inspired by Call of Duty are disappearing from the game at an alarming rate, and it seems that Electronic Arts is removing content at the direct request of Activision.
The most recent case affected creator Phiality, responsible for a popular mode called Battlefield Zombies 2028: Osiris, inspired by the classic Zombies mode from CoD. After gaining notoriety on YouTube, EA officially notified him of the removal of his creation due to intellectual property infringement, directly citing Activision as the complainant.
EA and Activision at odds over Portal mode creations
According to information shared by Kotaku, the notice demanded “permanently remove the experience and create a new one based solely on original content”, making it clear that Activision will not tolerate the use of its maps or concepts within other competing shooters. Other creators have also confirmed the removal of scenarios like “Shipment”, faithfully recreated within the Battlefield 6 editor.
This type of conflict is not new, but it does show a change in attitude compared to previous times, when titles like Halo 3 or Fortnite allowed recreations without major issues. EA has also warned that repeating this type of content could result in temporary or permanent suspensions across their entire network of services, a message that has sparked debate among fans about the limits of creativity in modern games.
