The iconic first-person shooter franchise is preparing to make the leap to television. Following the success of Fallout, Prime Video wants to repeat the formula with another Bethesda brand that also bears the Kilter Films seal.
Wolfenstein, one of the most emblematic names in the FPS genre, will become a television series thanks to Amazon MGM Studios. The project will be led by Patrick Somerville (Station Eleven, Maniac), who will serve as creator, writer, and showrunner. Additionally, it will feature executive production by Jonah Nolan and Lisa Joy, responsible for Westworld and the successful Fallout, along with Athena Wickham (Kilter Films), James Altman (Keyframe Films), and Jerk Gustafsson, from MachineGames.
The Wolfenstein series is already in production on Amazon Prime Video
Although no specific details about the plot have been revealed, the official logline makes it clear: “The story of killing Nazis never goes out of style“. A statement of intent that perfectly captures the spirit of the saga, which has always been centered on direct combat against the forces of the Third Reich, occult experiments, and all kinds of extreme situations.
- The main character of the games, William “B.J.” Blazkowicz, has starred in a long list of installments since the 80s. The big leap to fame came with Wolfenstein 3D in 1992, and since then has evolved with titles like The New Order, The New Colossus, or Youngblood. The latest installment, Cyberpilot, was a virtual reality proposal.
- Kilter Films is fully committed to adapting video games for Prime Video. After the resounding success of Fallout, whose second season will arrive in December and already has a third in the works, they now seek to repeat the formula with Wolfenstein. They are also involved in the development of Fourth Wing, based on the fantasy literary saga by Rebecca Yarros, and have previously worked on The Peripheral and Person of Interest.
For now, there are no official dates or confirmed cast, but production is already underway. If everything goes as planned, Wolfenstein could become the next big video game-based series in Prime Video’s catalog. Excellent news for fans of classic shooters and the Bethesda universe.
