Capcom wants Resident Evil Requiem to be not only the ninth numbered installment in the franchise but also a return to the series’ most iconic elements. In a recent interview, director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Tsuyoshi Kumazawa explained why the new game will once again be set in the legendary Raccoon City, a location that has been etched in the collective memory of fans since the 1990s.
The Japanese studio acknowledges that the decision is driven by a very specific desire: to revive the place where it all began. According to Nakanishi, there has always been a curiosity to return to Raccoon City and reinterpret it with current technology. With Resident Evil Requiem, that desire becomes a reality, placing the player in a familiar yet surprise-filled scenario.
A Requiem for the Dead, a Nightmare for the Living
- The plot of Requiem will revolve around Grace and Alyssa Ashcroft, directly connecting with the legacy of the series. Capcom ensures that the choice of Raccoon City is intended as a tribute to the victims of the plague, as well as a narrative engine for Grace’s journey to uncover the truth about her mother’s death.
The company also doesn’t rule out that this return may mean the reappearance of classic elements beloved by fans, strengthening that bond between past and present. All of this, moreover, with the particularity that the title will allow switching between first and third person, something unprecedented in the series so far.
Resident Evil Requiem will arrive in February 2026 on consoles and PC. A chapter that promises to close the circle of the saga by returning to the most remembered scenario in the franchise: the tragic and legendary Raccoon City.
