After spending dozens of hours in the west, many players feel the temptation to return to the origins. And now there’s a very clear reason to do so. Red Dead Redemption can be played entirely in first person thanks to a new mod that’s causing a sensation on PC.
The project, available for free on NexusMods under the name First Person, allows you to explore the entire John Marston adventure from a first-person perspective, something that never officially made it to the original game. The result is so impactful that it seems almost like a different title.
Red Dead Redemption in first person changes the experience completely
The mod doesn’t just move the camera. Shootouts, horseback riding, hunting, duels, and main missions feel much more personal and direct, turning the game into a kind of western shooter with its own identity. Videos shared by the community show very intense action scenes, with a sense of scale and tension that’s very different from the classic third-person view.
One of the most striking details is the treatment of damage. When Marston takes hits, the screen progressively covers with a dark, reddish veil that increases until the character’s death, reinforcing the sense of constant danger and making each confrontation more intense.
In Red Dead Redemption 2, the first-person view was an official feature from its PC release, so seeing this option applied to the first game has a special flavor for fans of the saga. Even more so considering that an official patch is unlikely at this point.
Once again, the community proves that it’s still very much alive and that, when Rockstar doesn’t make a move, modders take care of fulfilling long-awaited wishes. For those playing on PC, this is the perfect excuse to return to the desert and rediscover the story from within.
