The Red Dead Redemption 2 community never stops. With the map of the first game already playable on PC, a group of modders has been working for months on something even bigger: recovering and rebuilding the Mexican region to integrate it into the sequel. The project is called Nuevo Paraíso – La Frontera Olvidada, and as of today, it has a trailer that’s leaving fans speechless.
The teaser lasts just one minute, but it’s enough to see how iconic scenarios from the first Red Dead Redemption have been remade with the visuals and lighting of RDR2. A colossal expansion of the map that would allow players to explore the border, towns, and deserts with stunning visuals.
Nuevo Paraíso: The Mod That Wants to Expand RDR2 with Mexico
The trailer showcases iconic zones rebuilt with total fidelity, taking advantage of the power of the Red Dead Redemption 2 engine. The result is spectacular: more detailed terrain, new textures, redesigned vegetation, and overall work that gives the impression of being official content. The authors promise that the region will be fully explorable, including the route that John Marston traveled in the 2010 classic, now with a much higher visual level.
Although the mod will be distributed for free through Nexus Mods, there’s a real possibility that Rockstar might intervene and stop it, as has happened with other projects that reused maps from previous games. The team responsible knows that the risk is there, but assures that they will continue development until they receive an official communication.
An ambitious project, spectacular and one that, if nothing goes wrong, could offer PC players one of the largest unofficial expansions ever seen in the Red Dead Redemption universe. Will it see the light of day? We’ll find out soon.
