Game Science has once again left its mark with a new trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the highly anticipated sequel to the acclaimed Black Myth: Wukong. Coinciding with the Chinese New Year, the studio has released a video over six minutes long, entirely recorded with the game’s engine, focusing on atmosphere, lighting, and setting.
Although the material does not represent the final gameplay, it does serve to showcase the technical and artistic level that this new installment aspires to, abandoning the Monkey King to focus on a very different figure from Chinese mythology.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui bets on a new protagonist and its own atmosphere
In the trailer, Black Myth: Zhong Kui presents an apparently everyday scene: the detailed preparation of a dish in a kitchen, with special attention to lights, textures, and visual effects. The sequence culminates when the food is served to a hooded character whose identity is not revealed, leaving a mysterious and unsettling tone.
- From Game Science they have clarified that the scene is not canonical and has been created solely for entertainment and technical demonstration purposes, so it does not guarantee its presence in the final game. Nevertheless, the video reinforces the project’s ambition and extreme care for visual details.
Officially announced during Gamescom 2025, Black Myth: Zhong Kui is not a prequel or spin-off of Black Myth: Wukong, but a direct sequel starring Zhong Kui, the legendary demon hunter from Chinese mythology. Development is ongoing, and its release is expected for PC and major consoles, although everything suggests it will not arrive before late 2027, more likely between 2028 and 2029.
For now, this new trailer makes it clear that the Black Myth saga has a long way to go and that Game Science does not plan to repeat formulas, but reinvent itself while maintaining a top-level visual identity.
