A new image published by users on Reddit has sparked the curiosity of many gamers. In the promotional announcement of Xbox Game Pass Premium, what appears to be the cover art of the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from 2009 is featured among the highlighted games, leading the community to believe that the title might be close to being added to the service.
The detail was captured directly from the Xbox interface, and although the image quality does not allow for complete clarity, the cover art matches that of the original MW2 and not the remastered campaign version released years later. As of today, November 8, 2025, the game is not part of the catalog and does not appear in the “Coming Soon” section within Game Pass, adding more mystery to the situation.
Graphic error or imminent addition to the catalog?
It could be a simple image error (possibly the incorrect use of the MW2 Campaign Remastered cover art), while it could also be an unintentional preview of a future move by Microsoft.
Since the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, classic Call of Duty titles have been progressively added to the Game Pass catalog, especially those with complete campaigns and retrocompatibility support for Xbox One and Xbox Series. However, many users point out that the company might be delaying the release of older titles in the series to avoid direct competition with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, scheduled for November 14.
- Other comments also recall that older Call of Duty games still have servers plagued with modified or unstable matches, which would complicate their immediate arrival to the service without prior technical review.
For now, Microsoft has not made any official announcement about the addition of Modern Warfare 2 (2009) or its remastered version to Xbox Game Pass. Nevertheless, the appearance of the classic shooter in a promotional banner has been enough to get fans speculating about its return.
