Assassin’s Creed Shadows: early sales would point to one of the worst premieres of the saga

An independent report points out that the latest delivery from Ubisoft has not reached the usual figures of the franchise.

The commercial performance of Assassin’s Creed Shadows may not be meeting Ubisoft’s expectations. According to data from the consulting firm Alinea Analytics, the game would have sold approximately 4.3 million copies in its first seven months, a modest figure compared to previous installments in the series.

The report breaks down that 56% of sales come from PlayStation 5, 26% from Xbox Series, and 18% from Steam. If confirmed, Shadows would be among the worst-selling titles in the main franchise, surpassed by Mirage (with around 5 million units) and far behind Valhalla, which reached 20 million.

The Japanese market, a major disappointment

• One of the most striking points of the analysis is the limited impact of Assassin’s Creed Shadows in Japan, a key territory due to the game’s setting. Only 1.6% of global sales come from the Asian country, compared to the notable performance of Ghost of Yotei, its direct competitor, which tripled that percentage in the same period.

However, the report cites data from The Game Business that places Assassin’s Creed Shadows as the best-selling game in Europe during 2025 (until August), reflecting an irregular performance depending on the market. Ubisoft, for its part, has not published official figures, maintaining its usual discretion regarding the sales of its recent releases.

If the estimates are correct, Assassin’s Creed Shadows would have had a cooler reception than expected, despite its ambitious setting and the initial boost from the European public.
