There are moments that are memorable for any player. They come in all shapes and sizes, and in my case, I can say that at the end of the 90s, I discovered a title that would be etched in my memory and that of my friends at the time.
Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines, a PC game that put us in command of a group of characters with different skills, essential to complete the missions that were presented to us with the goal of achieving victory. A delivery that had it all: gameplay, demand, fun, and the ability to make us feel part of that team in really intense moments.
And so we arrive at a new delivery that aims to recover the essence of the original game, taking advantage of current technology to offer an experience that revives nostalgia in veteran players and awakens interest in newcomers.
An elite team has returned with a prequel that seeks to bring us a lot of fun - ¡Comparte!
Technical Section
One of the most evident aspects in this sequel is the radical change in the audiovisual section. We are no longer in that time of the late 90s; now we find ourselves with a modern proposal that seeks to exploit a game scheme that already shone in its first delivery.
Said, Commandos: Origins looks spectacular, I can’t deny it. The level of detail is very high and represents the spirit of the saga with fidelity. Every corner of the scenario reflects the harshness of the conflict with precision.
However, despite being immersive in a first contact, there are certain technical aspects that tarnish the experience. I refer to notable errors that affect the performance of the title.
There are many present failures: troops that cross walls, game blocks, and even unexpected closures. In my case, the most serious error was the impossibility of advancing from one mission to another, without any option to solve it.
This analysis was scheduled to be published at the end of the embargo, but the delay was precisely due to these problems, which were not solved until several weeks after the launch.
Well, it’s also fair to be fair and recognize that the game has received updates that have corrected many of the errors mentioned. However, despite this positive evolution, the title should not have been released in that state, as it has damaged the name of the saga and tarnished the player’s experience.
Not everything is negative, since the game has the Xbox Play Anywhere function, always well received. This allows us to have a copy on both PC and Xbox, preserving the progress and offering us the flexibility to continue where we want.
I have to be sincere: the performance on PC is notably better than on Xbox Series X. I don’t have a high-end team, but even so, the game worked much better on PC, with greater stability in the frame rate and a more consistent quality.
As for the voices, they are a true success. The game has Spanish dubbing and an excellent interpretation work in each situation and key moment.
In short, we are facing a bittersweet section. The audiovisual evolution is present and pays homage to the saga, although the technical errors tarnish the experience. Fortunately, each new update has been improving these aspects.

Gameplay
One of those names that have marked the industry in a very positive way has returned. Commandos: Origins is responsible for making us remember and relive unforgettable moments of this saga. Its title is not casual: it tells the origins of this charismatic group of soldiers.
In this way, we find ourselves in the midst of World War II, a war that needs a team led by the Green Beret Jack O’Hara, who must gather other fundamental members to complete a total of 14 missions.
Although it may seem like a low number, believe me when I tell you that these missions are extensive and will take us to different places, each with its own atmosphere and key elements. It is here where our cunning will be essential to overcome each challenge that is presented to us.
As you can imagine, each situation requires a different approach. In some cases, we can opt for stealth; in others, we must launch ourselves directly into action. Personally, I prefer to move cautiously, analyze the environment, and complete the objectives without being detected.
Thus, strategy and tactics will be our main allies. There is a difficulty selector that allows us to find the level that best suits our style of play. Although, in any of the options, the challenge is demanding: any mistake can have serious consequences.
It is essential to highlight that each character has its own role. The Green Beret is the face of the team, an expert in close combat; the Marine is in charge of aquatic operations and vehicle management; the Sapper handles explosives; the Driver dominates vehicle handling and is skilled with weapons; the Spy can infiltrate thanks to his disguises; and, finally, the deadly Sniper, key in many situations.
With each of these resources, we must open our way in each scenario. The enemies are numerous and follow specific patterns: our task will be to analyze them and find the right moment to neutralize each threat.
We have the advantage of being able to move the camera freely, zoom in, and explore angles within what is allowed. We can also visualize the enemy’s field of view to plan our movements with precision. Additionally, the Command Mode is added, which allows us to coordinate synchronized actions to resolve complex situations successfully.
A fundamental element to consider is the quick save. We must use it constantly before acting, as it can prevent us from losing time or having to restart from a very early point. The time and way we execute each mission will directly affect our final score.
We cannot forget that, in addition to the main missions, secondary missions are unlocked that we can complete or ignore. This adds an extra layer of complexity to each level. To give you an idea of the level of difficulty, completing each phase will be a true test of patience, coordination, and resource management.
It’s not a game for everyone. It can be complex, but also incredibly rewarding. It deserves a chance, not only for the nostalgia factor, but for what it offers: a well-designed campaign that celebrates the legacy of a very beloved franchise.

Duration
If there is an aspect in which this game has a lot to offer, it is precisely in its duration. It’s not an easy title to dominate, and I don’t mean it’s not fun: it requires time to understand and learn how to act in certain types of situations.
Said, we have approximately 14 missions. Although they may seem few, the truth is that they present a high level of challenge and demand, so overcoming them will take time. We are short to say that 30 hours is a reasonable estimate to complete the game.
Your skill, as well as the decision to complete or not the secondary missions, will be determinant in extracting every minute from commanding your troop, choosing well each action and minimizing errors. It’s a long journey, but very rewarding and enjoyable.
The missions are a true test of our ingenuity and set the pace for its duration. - ¡Comparte!
Conclusion
Commandos: Origins leaves us with two important lessons. The first, that it is possible to return the glory to a name with great legacy, as long as it is done in the right way. The second, that the studios must ensure that a game is released in optimal conditions, without rushing to meet deadlines or calendars.
This has been an accidental launch that did not meet the level of what the saga deserved. However, leaving aside the negative aspects, there is a great game here, one that preserves many of the elements that we enjoyed in its original deliveries.
We are facing a title that deserves a chance. In addition, it has received updates that have corrected many of its initial shortcomings, allowing us to enjoy our troop again, always ready to face the most complicated missions.
