At the beginning of the year, Microsoft launched a special promotion to coincide with the free trial period of Alan Wake 2. As part of the campaign, they offered a free copy of Alan Wake Remastered to all Xbox Game Pass users. Thousands of players claimed it on January 30th, adding the full title to their libraries at no cost.
However, just a few days later, doubts began to arise. Many users received warning messages from Xbox stating that access to the game would be revoked soon. This generated confusion, as neither the promotion nor Microsoft clarified the reason for the withdrawal. For weeks, the community debated between doubts and the possibility of keeping the game.
Alan Wake Remastered remains active in players’ libraries
Now, in October 2025, the situation has received a final confirmation. Numerous players (including members of the Generación Xbox team) confirm that Alan Wake Remastered remains in their digital libraries, fully accessible, downloadable, and playable without having to repurchase it.
- In forums like Reddit and social media, testimonials abounded: “It’s still working”, “They never took it away from me”, or “It seems they left it as it was”. Despite the warning being real and sent en masse, Microsoft never applied the revocation nor issued a subsequent statement about the change of decision.
If you claimed your free copy on January 30th, it’s worth checking your library: it’s likely that Alan Wake Remastered is still there, intact and playable. Perhaps, in the end, Microsoft decided to leave it as a small, permanent gift for fans of the darkest writer in Bright Falls.
