ZeniMax Online Studios is going through a significant transition period. The company, known worldwide for the success of The Elder Scrolls Online, among others, saw its MMO in development get canceled, something that surprised a large part of the team due to the level of quality it had already achieved, including Phil Spencer himself.
Far from slowing down their momentum, this situation has served as a turning point for reflection on the future. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Rich Lambert and Nick Giacomini explained that TESO will continue to be their main bet, but they don’t want to limit their trajectory to just one title, no matter how established it is.
A future with more than one project in mind
Lambert was very clear about it: “We want ESO to keep growing, but if you depend on a single game for too long, you end up having problems”.
- That’s why the studio is already considering new experiences beyond the Bethesda MMO. Lambert pointed out that both he and the rest of the team have multiple ideas that they can’t share yet, but they maintain the ambition of becoming one of the most successful studios in the entire organization.
The message is evident and clear: The Elder Scrolls Online will continue to be strong, but ZeniMax Online Studios doesn’t plan to stay still. The future involves diversifying and creating more projects that maintain their relevance in an industry that is changing faster and faster.
