An insecure version of the title has caused a critical situation on PC. Several players have seen their computers compromised with unauthorized remote access, forcing Activision to remove the game from the Microsoft Store and Game Pass to prevent further incidents. Xbox and Steam platforms have not been affected.
The withdrawal occurred urgently last Friday, when the publisher confirmed that the game had been “disabled while we investigate reports of an issue”. Indications point to an old and vulnerable version of the game being uploaded to the Microsoft store, which allowed attackers to execute remote code on the computers of the victims.
Call of Duty: WWII Disappears from Game Pass After Reports of Active Hacking on PC
- The affected edition is Call of Duty: WWII, originally released in 2017 and recently added to the Game Pass for PC catalog in June 2025. According to reports from media outlets like TechCrunch, the version distributed by Microsoft contained an exploit already fixed on other platforms, which opened a critical security gap.
One of the most visible cases was that of the streamer Wrioh, who published a video where you can see how the game freezes, command windows appear, and messages on the screen warn of a remote intrusion (RCE). This type of vulnerability allows attackers to take complete control of the device.
For now, Call of Duty: WWII is still available without problems on Steam and Xbox consoles, but it has not been confirmed when it will return to the Microsoft store or if it will return to Game Pass. Activision has also not detailed how many players may have been affected, although a thorough technical review is expected before the game is operational again on PC through Microsoft services.
