Hints about the future of one of Bethesda’s most recognizable franchises are starting to fall into place. According to a new report, the return of Wolfenstein could be closer than many expected, with a project that could fit into the plans for the 40th anniversary of the saga.
The information comes from usual sources within the Xbox environment and suggests that the company wants to regain weight with some of its most veteran IPs, taking advantage of a key moment both in terms of brand and external visibility.
The future of Wolfenstein is back on the table
According to journalist Jez Corden, Bethesda would have Wolfenstein 3 in development, an installment that would resume the main line started in 2014. The move would also coincide with the TV series based on the franchise that Amazon is preparing, announced in 2025 and still without a release date.
- Although the responsible studio has not been confirmed, MachineGames appears as the most logical candidate. The Swedish team has been behind the latest installments and has already made it clear in the past that the modern story of the saga was planned as a trilogy.
Since Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus in 2017, the series has only received secondary projects such as Youngblood or Cyberpilot. A return with a third numbered installment would mean a firm step to bring the saga back to the forefront, especially within the Xbox catalog and in the face of the brand’s next major events.
For now, there is no official announcement, but everything indicates that 2026 could be the year in which Wolfenstein roars again.
