Valve has announced the release of a limited-edition white version of its popular portable console, which will be available for purchase through Steam on November 18, 2024, for $679. This new white version not only changes the console’s color but also includes a case and microfiber cloth of the same color. However, in terms of technical specifications, it is identical to the 1TB Steam Deck OLED model already available on the market for $649. This means that players who already have a Steam Deck OLED won’t find reasons to upgrade to this new version, unless they’re willing to pay a bit more for the white color.
Valve has set some restrictions for purchasing this limited edition. Each Steam account can only acquire one unit, and the account must have a history of previous purchases and be in good standing. This suggests that Valve is looking to gauge interest in additional color options and limited editions, rather than releasing a permanent model or significant revision.
An interesting option, but act fast before it sells out
The price may seem high, especially considering the growing competition in the PC-style portable console market. Other options like the ASUS ROG Ally, the Ayaneo 3, and the Lenovo Legion Go offer features like improved specifications or out-of-the-box Windows functionality, which may make players think twice before choosing a new portable device.

If you’re a fan of Steam Deck news and have been waiting for an opportunity to acquire a unit with a unique look, this limited-edition white version may be a good option. However, if you already have a Steam Deck OLED, you likely won’t find reasons to upgrade. In any case, it’s essential to act quickly when orders become available, as Valve has indicated that once the stock is depleted, there will be no more units available.
